Description

Hardware (1990), directed by Richard Stanley, Ronin Flix 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, commentary track, and English subtitles. IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099740/ Video encoded in two-pass 10 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. English SDH subtitles OCRed, proofed and corrected. Note : Richard Stanley's debut feature is a super low budget postapocalyptic (or maybe periapocalyptic) cyberpunk movie that borrows from slashers, The Terminator, and a color version of the aesthetic of Tsukamoto's Tetsuo, all pipes and tubes with flickering CRTs, mixed with a bit of Blade Runner. It also boasts acting appearances from Lemmy and Iggy Pop, and an amazing soundtrack featuring Ministry and PiL, and a score by Simon Boswell. It's not incredibly original, and some bits are a little dated, but it makes a lot out of a very small budget, and is generally pretty great. The story, apparently ripped off from a Judge Dredd Annual comic called SHOK!, concerns a former soldier who buys some robot parts from a scavenger who found them in the postapocalyptic wasteland, and brings them to his artist girlfriend, who incorporates the head into a sculpture. The robot turns out to be not quite dead, and its self-repairing features bring it back to life with a new body made from workshop scraps. The situation is complicated by a stalking, voyeuristic neighbor and large doses of various chemicals, lethal and not. This Ronin Flix 4k remaster is pretty good looking, with good grain retention and ok detail. It's a very dark film, and there's at least a reasonable amount of detail in the shadows. 5.1 remaster sounds as it should, director's commentary track is ok. Nothing to complain about, really. Try searching for “hevk sci-fi horror” for more futuristic horror, “hevk sci-fi” for more science fiction in general, or “hevk 90s” for more advanced practical effects and primitive CGI.
